SIAL is a global marketplace for all those involved in the food industry (retail, trade, manufacturing, catering professions, services). Since its creation in 1964 it takes place every other year, and this time it was running from 17 to 21 October at the Paris-Nord Villepinte exhibition centre.

SIAL 2010 can be summed up in a handful of phrases: competitive food industries, fruitful business meetings and the globalisation of trade boosting the worldwide upturn. The numbers of visitors recorded for the first two days of the exhibition had risen in comparison with SIAL 2008. The disruptions across France at the time of the exhibition accounted for the overall 8% fall in visitors. Yet despite these circumstances, SIAL acted as a catalyst for global economic trade, with 136,500 professional visitors (compared with 147,860 in 2008), of which 62% were international visitors from 200 countries, reflecting the challenge that the new economic order represents.

The focus at SIAL was, as always, innovation, as was clearly reflected in the 250 conferences and events on nutrition, design, retail, foodservice and ingredients that took place at the exhibition. 985 new products were displayed, which is 25% more than last year results. Search for new ideas and decisions for business is the vital topic now when the economic crisis goes on recession. So, raw material producers more and more often address also to B2C - Business to Clients («business for clients»). «Many enterprises started producing various beverages under own trade mark. Natural and high quality products gain the most priority, manufacture is focused on a healthy lifestyle, - Anna Shmelkina, the TCC LLC representative, marks. - in beverages branch the increasing popularity is being gained by smooths, energy drinks, and mixes, that have been presented in wide range».

For foreign manufactures Russian market is of a special interest: internal resources and home producers of raw materials for the food processing industry are not able now to satisfy demand of a consumer for healthy, quality products. Inclement weather conditions of current year have increased the requirement for import raw materials, and suppliers look out for different countries, not only for China. «We got rather interesting offers from Greek, Italian, South African producers, as far as we got acquainted at the exhibition. At present we carry on negotiations with them for deliveries of tomato paste, fruit concentrates, fruit and vegetable purees. Also it was great to meet our foreign partners we co-operate with for a long time already, and personally discuss the further plans of joint business», - Anna notes.

World marketplace SIAL continues to remain one of the best stages in the world for long-term and favourable partnership installation. Next exhibition «SIAL Middle East» will take place at Abu-Dhabis (United Arab Emirates) on November, 22-24. SIAL Middle East will be the latest event to join SIAL Group, the SIAL network of exhibitions.
